Last night at the renowned Hollywood Bowl a huge family affair occurred. Three brothers from Nashville, along with their cousin, invited 17,000 individuals in Los Angeles to a rock celebration. The Kings of Leon, consisting of brothers Nathan Followill, drummer, Jared Followill, bassist, Caleb Followill, lead vocalist, and cousin Matthew Followill, lead guitarist, shook the Hollywood Hills with a song parade of two hours that lasted far into the July summer night.
The father of the Followill brothers was a traveling preacher, so the boys grew up out on the road. Kings of Leon mythology would have you believe that until they were rock stars all of them were virgins. Whether that’s true or not, there is one thing that is certain: Kings of Leon after spending over two years out on the road in support of “Only By Night,” their multi-platinum selling album from 2008, have found their groove most definitely. They are out on the road once more, although under circumstances that are very different, and play their hearts out as they sing of women, sex, excess, the devil and whiskey.
The evening was opened by The Features from Nashville and Built to Spill, veteran rockers from Boise, Idaho. Both groups have been musical inspirations for the Followill family for a long time.
